Early Results from the Washington University Midwest ICCA Quarterfinal

1st Place: MSU Beartones
2nd Place: MSU A Cub Bella
3rd Place: Wash U. Stereotypes

More details to come when our correspondents have a moment to discuss!

EDIT:

After seeing semi-finals, I can strongly say that BOTH the Washington University Stereotypes AND the Mosaic Whispers were stronger than some of the semi-final groups. I also know from seeing the Rip Chords numerous times in the past calendar year that they are consistently better than most of the semi-finalists.

The lesson learned from this? Have more open availability and submit your applications to the ICCAs EARLY. The quarterfinals are set up using the available weekends of each group and the proximity to the event. I'm guessing the producers WANT to make the most balanced quarterfinals possible so that the best groups end up at semis, but sometimes that just doesn't happen. Serious case in point? The West region this year... although I hear that the SoCalVocals deserved all the credit they got.

More on semis later.

I missed SNL for this crap. What the hell...A Cub Bella got 2nd? I had them ranked 5th out of 8. The judges were on crack for the 2nd year in a row.

And NO CHOREO AWARD? What?

I think A Cub Bella deserved to win last year (robo-limbs and all), and I agree with the Beartones winning this year.... but I don't think A Cub Bella deserved second. I am slowly working on my write-up, but more important writing is calling my name this week.

well, at least ONE girl's group gets to make a showing at midwest semi's.... a cub bella's gonna have to rep for the totally shafted rip chords this year... this judges ARE cracked out...

Ah, for crying out loud. It seems as though ICCA has a never-ending supply of judges on crack. Every year, coincidentally. We may not always agree with the judges' decisions, but the groups are scored on a number of things. It isn't just which groups we like best. In the end, it's how many points are accumulated. A group may be lacking in an area that you feel is crucial to a performance, but in the end, it's only a few measly points shaved off in one out of the 20 areas that groups are given points in. A Cub Bella wasn't perfect, but NO group was...it really could have gone several ways. But overall, they delivered a great performance and obviously excelled in the areas that the judges saw as most important. Which may be, perhaps, why they won third place in semi-finals. Or, I guess the Chicago judges were on crack, too.

Listen-- I was just saying that I found the quarterfinals to be unfairly weighted. I actually thought A Cub Bella improved at the semis... for that competition, they were well deserving of 3rd place.

Also-- I just realized that the first commenting individual is still watching SNL. This amuses me-- the show is still funny? I bet anything that garners a chuckle is written by Jorma and Akiva.
